Zone manager is a complete Link zone editing tool. One can view,
change, copy zone setting of Link. The settings can be saved in a Map
file or loaded from a map file. Multiple map files can be kept in
Palm. These Map files then can be loaded to Link or compared to Link.
The operation of loading, saving, or comparing can be done for just one
single location (like a keypad), the whole
zone locations or just subsection of zones in 6 different groups.
Loading ,changing, saving to a file or to Link is quite fast (as fast as
on a keypad) and reliable. All the data movements are verified for
accuracy.
Editing of zones can be performed away from the car. Once the
Link's internal zones are copied to the Palm, manipulation of data can be
done at any time and even on a PC. When the editing process is
complete, return to the car with a new Map and save the changes to the Link.

The key to utilizing the zone manager to max is in
understanding the 4 separate zone data holding areas and the division of 256
zones into 6 groups. There are three screens for working with zones.
Use the Palm menu button to make a selection for movement.

AREAS
There are 4 main areas of zone data display. All movements between
the area are governed by the group type chosen except for 'Reload',
'Store', 'Ld M', and 'Sv E' command. These commands apply
to all of area values.
| S - area represents what is stored in Link. The stored value in
Link can only be changed by either 'Reload' or 'Store'
command. To obtain the current values of stored area, use the 'Read
S' command. |
| C - area represents the current Link operational values. During
engine operation, current Link values can be change by auto tuning, by
knock control, or by boost control. 'Read C' command will
copy fresh values from Link to C-area. To change the current Link
values, use 'E2Cg' or '(picture of left arrow)' commands to
copy values from E-area to Link. The arrow is used to copy single
value from E to Link. To prevent accidental copy, a check box above
the arrow must be turned off to activate the 'Reload', 'Store', 'E2Cg',
and the 'arrow'. |
| M - area contains what was read from a map file using the 'Ld
M'
command. |
| E - area is the main edit area where values can be copied from other
areas or edited manually. To change the selected zone value, use the
horizontal scroll bar at the bottom. Use 'S2Eg', 'C2Eg', 'M2Eg'
buttons to copy values from other areas to E-area. With above
copy commands, only the selected sub group values will be copied. |
Groups
256 zones are divided into 6 sub groups. For a given zone, the
group value of that zone is displayed in a small box below the label
'group'. When a group is selected (besides 'ALL') copy, find,
and scroll operations are limited to the group members.
| Group 0 - Miscellaneous zones such as File ID zones and Z5. Z5
is hidden in this group to prevent accidental edit |
| Group 1 - System group contains all the limits and scale factors. |
| Group 2 - Operation group contains fuel and ignition master settings
and targets. |
| Group 3 - Boost group contains boost targets and boost control
parameters. |
| Group 4 - Fuel zones. |
| Group 5 - Ignition time zones. |
MAP files
Map files can be loaded into M-area ('Ld M') or saved from E-area
('Sv E'). Unused
files can be deleted. File names are case sensitive. Map files
can be converted to and from a PC using the MapCvt utility program.
Search (Find Next)
There are three search commands. These command find the next
mismatch location (within the selected group). Each click will find
the next mismatch location. At the end of the group, search will roll
back to the beginning of the group area. If there are no mismatch,
display will not change and the search command will not beep.
| [SC] - compares S-area with C-area for mismatch |
| [C] - compares C-area with E-area for mismatch |
| [M] - compares M-area with E-area for mismatch |
Other stuff
"Hide" check box will hide matching values in S, C, and M area if they
match the E area value.
"BZ" check box will let you edit Boost Target Zones as one. If this
box is checked. then any edit in one of the zones will effect all the target
zones.
Be sure that C-area is fresh before attempting a 'Store'
operation. Although the command will succeed, compare will fail if
C-area has not been updated.
There are also two command buttons to make map file transfers easier.
'To Lnk' will load selected file to Link's C-area. To make the
change permanent, perform the 'Store' operation. 'From L'
copies Link's C-area to a selected file.
These two short cut commands in essence perform series of steps and in
doing so, contents of group selection and C, E, and M area all will be
changed.
Use menu selection to move to other screens. Buttons
Scroll (up/down) buttons - will change selected E-area zone values. To
Do button - will scroll zone down one. Memo button - will scroll zone up
one. |

ignition values of E-area.
To switch from fuel to ignition, click on the label "FUEL".
The top half will hold matching values from one of areas chosen (S, C or

E-area values can be changed by selecting a zone and then either typing
in the new value or using the 'Up/Down' arrows next to the zone name

The display can be scrolled left/right up/down by clicking on the zone

The amount of shift will vary according to the distance from the center.

This screen shows zone Z5 (E-area) in bit
flags. As each flag is selected or not selected, the Z5 value will
change according to the selection. If you are satisfied with the edit
the use the 'Update E' to change the E-area Z5. If not, use 'Undo'
command to revert back. TPS section should not be used at this time.
It was originally intended to help in setting zones Z10 and Z11 but needs
more work.
CAS section can be used to set +10 degree timing. Be sure to select
normal before returning to Zone Manager screen. Even with +10 degree
timing set, the current Link software will vary the timing about a degree up
or down while in idle. This is due to the idle stabilization code in
Link.
Auto Tune section send commands to put Link in one of three auto tune
modes. |
