PLink will datalog in two different ways; unconditional or conditional.

First is a conventional datalogging where user starts the log and stops the log sometime later.  All information between those two points are stored in a file.  In between start and stop, user can pause the log and also be able to manually tag a section of the log by toggling data tag on and off.  This is how Linkwin and MLL operates.

The second way is a conditional capture of data.  User will first set up a condition in which data should be captured (such as when knock level is higher than 45).  With a trigger condition set up, user will start the datalog but the program will not store any information until the trigger condition is met.

Once PLink see the set trigger condition in the data stream, PLink will mark that section of data with an auto tag flag (similar to the manual tag flag) and store data from about 4 seconds before the trigger condition to about 4 seconds after the trigger condition is no longer present.

Conditional datalogging can still be paused and also be forced on by toggling the manual tagging on and off.  So, it is possible to have conditional datalog with auto tagged section, manually tagged section, and a section with both auto and manual tag flags set.

The conditional datalogging allows one to run the PLink for longer periods of time and yet still have very small size log file which only contains the information surrounding the set trigger conditions.

User can store datalogs in files and later download then to a PC.  The size and the number of files are only limited by available memory on Palm.

The version 1 PLink will also plot the saved datalog files but the graphing speed to just too slow to be useful at this time.

This is the real time instrumentation screen.  Engine operational parameters can be monitored here.  Some of the fields have peak-hold feature where maximum value is displayed until cleared.

To use the peak-hold feature, tap on the field label.  If it turns white, then it is in peak-hold mode.  Not all fields have peak-hold function.

IAC field only display value in idle mode.  When not in idle, the field will turn blank.  This is one way to see where the idle switch is set.

In all other PLink screens, Palm menu is used to navigate to other screens but in Monitor screen, navigation is performed using the three round buttons at the bottom of the screen.  These buttons are only active when there is no datalog in progress.  The Zone manager button is also available if datalog is paused.

Once a datalog file has been set up, datalog can start with the 'START' button and be terminated with the 'STOP' button.  While datalog is running (either conditional or unconditional), it can be paused using the 'PAUSE' button and be forced into manual tagged logging using the 'TAG' button.  For both of these buttons, background will turn black if active (in pause or in tag).  To turn off these features, hit the button one more time (to take it out of pause or tag mode).

If a datalog file name has not been chosen, the program will automatically assign a name in the format of DLyMMddhhmm where y is the last digit of current year.  If a view file name has not been chosen, then the program will display the last datalog file automatically.

'C' field displays the current communication status with Link.

bullet"OPEN" - No communication.  Check the cable.
bullet"LINK" - Link has been detected but binary communication has not started yet
bullet"BRK", "FRM", "PRT" - Temporary communication glitch.
bullet"SYNC" - Binary communication in progress.

'L' field displays the current datalog status.

bullet"STOP" - Datalog is not running.
bullet"W"+ number - Datalog is in conditional mode looking for a trigger condition.  The number represend collected data blocks.
bullet"PAUSE" - Datalog has been paused.  No data will be captured.
bullet"MAN" - Datalog is capturing data in manual tagged mode.
bullet"AUTO" - Datalog is capturing data in auto tagged mode. (A trigger condition is present at this time)
bulletnumber - Datalog is in unconditional mode and has captured 'n' number of blocks of data. (each block is about 4-5 seconds worth of data)

If you have datalog running (either unconditional or conditional), put the datalog into "PAUSE" mode before turning off your Palm.  Once you return to your car, start the car and then take the PLink out of the "PAUSE" mode.

PLink can now also display chip ID.  Just click on the 'MONITOR' label to see the chip ID.  It will take about 20-30 seconds of continuous communication with Link for the program to gather the chip ID information.  During that 30 seconds, PLink also reads current Link zone values to C-area (see Zone Manager for different areas).

Phone - Display off/on (to conserve battery)

WARNING: Auto power off feature of Palm will NOT function in this screen.  It will stay on until Palm runs out of battery.   In other screens, Palm will turn off after inactivity period but not in this screen.  Since the serial port is constantly on in this screen, battery consumption will be high.  Be sure to have fresh set of batteries for a long duration (5-6 hours) datalogging.

Use datalog set up screen to select files and to set up auto tag trigger conditions.

To start a new datalog, a file must be set up first.  Type in the datalog file name at the top of the screen and hit the 'Set Log File' button.  PLink will automatically add a "DL" prefix to the file name and display the name in the 'Log' field.  "DL" prefix is added to distinguish a log file from a Map file after a Hotsync.

To view a datalog file select a file from the drop down box and hit the 'Set View file' button.  The name of the selected view file will be shown in the 'View' field.

Using the dropdown box, a file can be deleted by hitting the 'Del' button or file size can be viewed using the "Stat' button.

Auto tag conditions can be set for knock level, MAP level, Injector percentage level, any fuel cut conditions, or any ECU error conditions.  To enable the trigger, set the level to a desired value and then click on the selection check box.  For error flags and fuel cut, there are no values to set.

'Tagged log only' check box determines the datalog type.  If checked, then datalog will operate in conditional mode and store only tagged data.  If unchecked, then all collected data are stored in unconditional mode.

If auto tag conditions are enabled but the datalog is run in unconditional mode, auto tag flags will still be set in the log and all the data will be captured.

Currently, this screen is too slow to be useful.

Datalog view screen plots up to seven different information on the screen.

The screen displays 150 lines of log information horizontally and the vertical scale can be selected to show from 0 to 120 or from 0 to 240.  The vertical scale can be toggled between the two by hitting the "s" button at the top left corner.

bulletR - RPM/100
bulletM - MAP in kpa
bulletW - Wastegate
bulletO - Oxygen
bulletK - Knock level
bulletT - Ignition timing
bulletJ - Injector percentage

Each of these values can be displayed in light line, dark line or be turn off.  To select the display mode, hit the label to toggle between the three modes.  When the label is invisible, then the value will not be plotted.  If background of a label is dark, then the plot will be in dark line.  If the background of a label is white then the plot will be in light line.

Use the 'd' button at the bottom left corner to draw the plot.

Use the left larger scroll bar to select the starting line of the plot.  Left field shows where the plot will start for the next plot.  Right field shows the starting line for the current plot shown.

Use the right smaller scroll bar to view the actual values of the plot in the display box below the field labels.

Use the menu button to select other screens.
